The fourth mantra of love by Thich Nhat Hanh is perhaps the most vulnerable: “I suffer, please help.”
These five words carry the strength of surrender—the kind of surrender that isn’t weakness, but deep wisdom. To say “I suffer” is to stop pretending. To say “please help” is to let go of the illusion that we must bear it all alone.
This mantra is about releasing the pride that isolates us, the stories that say asking for help is shameful, or that pain must be hidden to be healed. Instead, it invites us into connection. It reminds us that suffering is part of being human, and that the bravest thing we can do is ask for support when the weight becomes too much.
And this support can come in many forms:
From a friend.
From a partner.
From your inner self.
From Source.
From the infinite, loving consciousness that surrounds and moves through all things.
As you listen, you might imagine yourself speaking this mantra aloud to someone safe… Or you may close your eyes and hear the voice of your deepest self, finally reaching up and out. Or maybe—just maybe—you’ll hear the Divine whisper back: “I’m here. You are never alone.”
Please Help – Official Lyrics:
I wear the mask,
I play it strong,
Pretend I’ve known the path all along.
But the night is deep, and I’m tired inside—
Too much pride to show the tears I hide.
But the silence is heavy, and the ache is real.
This pain I’ve buried, I need to feel.
I suffer…
Please help.
I suffer…
Please help.
I suffer…
Please help.
I’ve carried this alone so long,
But I’m not that strong.
I suffer…
Please help.
I’ve held my breath, I’ve bit my tongue,
Trying to prove I don’t need anyone.
But tonight my heart is breaking through.
And I need you. I need you.
So here I am with nothing left,
Just this trembling, sacred breath...
I suffer…
Please help.
I suffer…
Please help.
No more shame in reaching out,
No more silence, no more doubt.
I suffer…
Please help.
This is not weakness—this is grace.
To fall, to feel, to show my face.
To ask…
and trust…
that love will stay.
I suffer…
Please help.
I suffer…
Please help.
If you hear me…
If you care…
Let me know you’re there.
I suffer…
Please help.
